The end of an Enormous music ride

by Enormous on November 1, 2011

Enormous is over. The music has stopped. The musicians involved have all gone back to their own projects leaving this website with one last purpose. To bid everyone a fond farewell and channel this website’s ample amount of readers into the arms of the musicians who made Enormous what it is and who now continue on their own musical journeys. Amazing as it may sound, this website still gets over 1,200 visitors every day without fail, most of whom are looking for one thing and one thing only.

Music.

Music, music and more music.

So, in no particular order…

Paul Varga. Paul Varga continues to work as one half of the Enormous Horns, the horn section that Enormous helped to launch, and is also available as a freelance saxophonist, transcriber and arranger. Paul also continue to work on a number of music projects with Ashley Morgan.

Travis Peters. Enormous crashed just a few months after diminutive pianist and organ handler Travis joined our then merry band of musicians. He’d hardly had time to set up his organ when the band came crashing down around his ears. Travis jumped ship and found a new home with Wwolves. The band, not the football team.

Graham Boffey. Still drumming in the corner where he can be heard for miles and miles.

Ashley Morgan. Enormous was never Ashley Morgan’s first love, musical or otherwise. Ashley Morgan’s own music always came first and that is probably how it will always be. Some people just aren’t cut out to be in other people’s bands because they can only hear their own music. Ashley Morgan is one of those people. Follow Ashley Morgan’s music career at ashleymorgan.com.

Mike Ridley-Dash. “I told you we should have hired the other guy”. Those were Ashley’s last words regarding Mr. Ridley-Dash and it’s safe to say that there was no love lost between the two of them. Musically and professionally they disagreed. And that’s an understatement. Mike continues to play and we all wish him well with his future endeavours musical or otherwise.

Davy Lawrence. Unknown. Missing in action. Napoleon Fantastic is dead, long live…?

But what about the music, what about the music?

Never fear, we hear your cry. Did you really think we were going to just flush over 5 studio albums of material down the lavatory? Did you really think we that musically stupid?

The Enormous music, the music of Davy Lawrence, Steve O’Toole, Graham Boffey, David Graham, Paul Varga and Ashley morgan. That music.

It’s coming.

There are many people online called Ashley Morgan. There are lots and lots of Ashley Morgans on the web. LOTS of Ashley Morgans. Ever since writing that post about how I hated Lady Gaga and how I think that tribute acts are the work of the devil I have had hate mail from people asking me why I don’t like the trumpet player in my own band.

Hello internet people. Please stop being so bloody stupid.

Of all the Ashley Morgans out there, our Ashley Morgan is a British jazz musician and owns and runs a record label (well, a couple of record labels actually, but that’s another story) and one of the other Ashley Morgans is a Lady Gaga tribute singer, presumably in drag, I don’t know, I haven’t checked.

Other Ashley Morgans that I found online include a lawyer, a carpenter, a tailor, a recruitment consultant and someone who appears to cut their own hair.

They are not all the same person.

Thank you and goodnight.

Ashley Morgan jazz remixes revisited

by Enormous on March 2, 2011

Yesterday I spoke about Ashley Morgan’s jazz remixes. Ashley has reliably informed me that the correct preposition is of.

Remixes of Enormous trumpet player and jazz musician Ashley Morgan.

Ashley Morgan’s new record label, E&R Records, is something of a music industry anomaly. At a time when every the major labels are falling over themselves to go digital Ashley Morgan’s new record label is taking things back to the old school with good old fashioned analogue vinyl and, shock horror, cassette!

All of these Ashley Morgan recordings will be distributed through independent record shops. No digital downloads, free or paid.

No, I don’t know what he’s up to either. Personally I reckon it’s crazy. But he tells me that digital music is a waste of time and that analogue is the only way forward. I told them that it might work for jazz (I would imagine that jazz musicians and jazz fans were Ashley Morgan’s target audience when he put this new shindig together) but not for the kind of indie pop that Enormous push.

I remain confused and dazed but hopeful that Ashley Morgan’s new record label is heading in the right direction here. Otherwise we are all doomed.

Yesterday we had an email asking if Enormous trumpet player and stubble adorned jazz musician Ashley Morgan was available for a Lady Gaga tribute gig.

Apparently, despite being a happily married father with facial hair that looks like it could sharpen diamonds, Ashley Morgan is in demand as a Lady Gaga impersonator.

Here at Enormous HQ we take a pretty dim view of unoriginal music and believe that tribute acts have a special place in hell.

Ashley Morgan was unavailable to comment on this thoroughly hilarious situation. However, we remain certain that he once he is made aware of the situation he will find it just as pathetically hilarious as we do. Albeit with his usual sense of calm. *

* Disclaimer. We do not expect Ashley to remain calm. He has been known to Hulk out on several occasions. If he smashes through one of your walls whilst ripping his shirt off in a Lou Ferrigno style we don’t take responsibility.

**Disclaimer number two. We do acknowledge that there are other Ashley Morgans out there but please have some sense before contacting us about other Ashley Morgans like the lawyer, the actress (cough, cough) and the aforementioned Lady Gaga impersonator. It is possible for more than one person to have the same name you know.

Ashley Morgan jazz remixes

by Enormous on March 1, 2011

Listening to some jazz remixes by Enormous trumpet player and jazz musician Ashley Morgan.

Or should that be remixes of Enormous trumpet player and jazz musician Ashley Morgan?

Either way. Very cool. Very cool indeed.

Ashley Morgan’s new record label, E & R Records (or E&R Records, or E and R Records, whichever one sticks) is going to be analogue only and won’t release anything on any kind of digital format (except mini disc which Ashley Morgan appears to have some kind of attachment to that I’ve never understood).

Crikey!

Analogue only. No digital distribution at all.

Has Ashley Morgan lost his marbles or will Ashley Morgan’s latest record label venture, E & R Records (or E&R Records, or E and R Records, you get the picture) work? Will Ashley Morgan’s other record label, Big Arena Records, follow suit?

I don’t know! Ask him not me? Visit Ashley Morgan’s websites and find out for yourself!
