Analogue

E&R Records and Big Arena Records

by Enormous on April 29, 2011

E&R Records now owns some of the assets of Big Arena Records, specifically the early recordings of Ashley Morgan and The Ashley Morgan Quartet that were originally released on Big Arena Records.

Big Arena Records will continue to exist as an independent label in it’s own right. E&R Records, like Ashley Morgan’s other record labels 447 Records and 7611 Records is exclusively analogue, distributing music on vinyl and cassette only.

A family of independent analogue record labels, distributing analogue music all over the world though a small network of independent record shops. Founded in 2007 and developed over the last 4 years, artist owned, anti digital and pro analogue.

Ashley Morgan’s new record label, E&R Records, is something of a music industry anomaly. At a time when every the major labels are falling over themselves to go digital Ashley Morgan’s new record label is taking things back to the old school with good old fashioned analogue vinyl and, shock horror, cassette!

All of these Ashley Morgan recordings will be distributed through independent record shops. No digital downloads, free or paid.

No, I don’t know what he’s up to either. Personally I reckon it’s crazy. But he tells me that digital music is a waste of time and that analogue is the only way forward. I told them that it might work for jazz (I would imagine that jazz musicians and jazz fans were Ashley Morgan’s target audience when he put this new shindig together) but not for the kind of indie pop that Enormous push.

I remain confused and dazed but hopeful that Ashley Morgan’s new record label is heading in the right direction here. Otherwise we are all doomed.

British jazz musician Ashley Morgan today launched 3 UK record labels all of which offer no digital downloads and no mp3s. E&R Records, 447 Records and Level 9 Records are all entirely analogue, distributing music on vinyl and cassette.

Yes, that’s right. Analogue only. E&R Records, 447 Records and Level 9 Records. All recordings are analogue and all recordings stay analogue.

Form an orderly queue at your local independent record shop.
