Bear With Me . . .

by Enormous on June 14, 2010

Ahh! There’s a bear with me!

Not really. I’m just posting this for my legions of devoted fans to inform you all that I shall be returning to full-time blogging again shortly.
I have been very busy recently with various projects, darlings – including recording the new Enormous album, and simply have not had the time to write anything substantial.

As you can probably see, my new home is here at davylawrence.com and within the coming weeks we shall have a big house-warming party to get the ball rolling.

Hope you are all well.

A bientôt.

Solitude

by Enormous on August 26, 2009

Writing any kind of music requires concentration. Writing jazz, arguably music’s most cerebral genre, requires a level of commitment that necessitates solitude. As I use my recently discovered extra hours to transfer ideas from my head, through my mouthpiece, onto paper and then into Sibelius or Finale, whichever wins the battle for my attention, it’s important to create an air of solitude around my workspace.

The solitude that I need can only be achieved if I am comfortable and pain free. With more and more hours spent sitting in front of a computer, blogging, promoting, writing, composing or transcribing it’s time to get serious about the chair that supports me.

I need an ergonomic chair. And I need one now.

Twit

by Enormous on June 15, 2009

Follow me on Twitter. It’s a hoot. Sorry, tweet.

(Sings) ‘I will follow you if you follow me.’ Who was that? I hope it wasn’t Genesis. It wasn’t Genesis, was it? Genesis were officially a bit crap- especially after Gabriel left. Probably still are.

Fruitcake

by Enormous on May 6, 2009

I’m moving to a new host; I’ll be back in a few days. Don’t y’all go wandering off to any other blogs written by tall, handsome frontmen while I’m gone, now, will ya?

By way of marking the relocation, I’m going to prepare a strong cup of Earl Grey and eat a small fruitcake that Mr Mishri from the corner Newsagent’s has just given me – I know, I was rather taken aback, too.

I was transfixed by his double chin that was wobbling away like a pair of muddy-brown, over-stimulated jellyfish when, with his usual dead-tired disposition, he handed me the fruity gift saying, ‘Present for you, Mr Davy.’ Then, by way of an explanation: ‘The wife, bless her pointed little head, makes them for me while I’m in the shop serving you lot but I can’t stand this fruitcake bugger. Too English.’

‘Thanks,’ I said.

Rooftop Protest

by Enormous on April 9, 2009

I had decided to give up rooftop protests for Lent, but I am sorry to say my resolve did not hold and here I am about to embark upon yet another.

I’m fed up. After taking a week off to recharge my batteries, I got out of bed this morning – my official back-to-work day –  feeling more knackered and drained than before. Arrrgh!

(To be honest with you, I only have myself to blame. I fully intended to relax, catch up on some reading, have lots of gentle walks with Audrey and generally lie around the house indulging in some rampant masturbation; when in reality, I probably did more work than usual.)

The profound disappointment I feel as I write this has allowed me to confirm the fundamental truth that life is just not fair. There are simply too many distractions and too many things that have to be accomplished on a day-to-day – or, more realistically, on an hour-by-hour – basis.

‘Modern life is rubbish’ complained some insightful wag a few years ago. He was making a point I would concede without demur.

Week Off

by Enormous on March 27, 2009

As mentioned in my last post, I am taking a break for a few days.

Will you miss me?

I will not be gone for long – just a week or so. I have decided I need to rest my weary head and recharge my batteries.

Later, pop fans.

(All I really need is for a beautiful girl from Baltimore to fly over and give me a kiss. And of course, I wouldn’t settle for just one.)
